SMATRICS EnBW opens new fast-charging parks in northern Italy – vacation hotspots now easily accessible by electric car

  • A total of 32 new ultra-fast charging points with up to 400 kilowatts of power have been put into operation in northern Italy
  • Charging parks are the ideal addition for cross-border travel destinations such as Venice, Milan, and Lake Garda

As the new year begins, SMATRICS EnBW, Austria's leading operator of ultra-fast charging infrastructure, is opening two new charging parks in northern Italy. The Trezzo sull'Adda site (four hours from Innsbruck) is located on the A4 Turin-Trieste motorway, which bypasses the greater Milan area and Lake Garda, to name only a few. The Gruaro location (two hours from Villach) is located at the A4 Turin-Trieste and A28 Portogruaro-Conegliano motorway junction. The new charging parks are essential for commuter and tourist traffic between Austria, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

“E-mobility does not stop at national borders. The new charging parks in Trezzo sull'Adda and Gruaro consolidate SMATRICS EnBW's existing network in northern Italy and represent yet another milestone for sustainable, cross-border mobility,” says Thomas Landsbek, CEO of SMATRICS EnBW.

Ultra-fast and convenient

Trezzo sull'Adda and Gruaro each have 16 ultra-fast charging points for cars, some of which have a roof. Depending on the type, vehicles can charge up to 400 kilowatts at the ultra-fast chargers in 15 minutes for a range of 400 km. Both locations have display boards with daily ad hoc prices and barrier-free charging spaces that are extra wide. The Gruaro charging park also has a separate charging space for vehicles with trailers or caravans. The charging parks are designed so that additional charging points can be easily added in the future if required. There are plenty of places to eat and drink for e-mobilists at both locations. 

Cross-border e-mobility in a tourist hotspot 

Like other SMATRICS EnBW charging locations, the Trezzo sull'Adda and Gruaro charging parks serve areas south of the Alps that are popular with and frequently visited by Austrians. Trezzo sull'Adda is located in the greater Milan area, just one hour from the Italian-Swiss border and just over an hour from Lake Garda. Gruaro is conveniently located in the border triangle between Austria, Italy, and Slovenia. The tourist hotspots of Venice, Caorle, Jesolo, and Lignano Sabbiadoro are in the immediate vicinity.
