SMATRICS EnBW Opens First Ultra-Fast Charging Station Between Vienna and St. Pölten in Altlengbach

The SMATRICS EnBW charging station located right off the A1 in Altlengbach brings high-power charging and convenience to Lower Austria and closes an important gap in the charging network.

SMATRICS EnBW, the operator of Austria’s largest nationwide fast-charging network, is expanding its network in Lower Austria: With the High-Power Charging (HPC) station in Altlengbach, the first ultra-fast charging station between Vienna and St. Pölten—located directly on the A1 West Highway—is going into operation.

“With the state-of-the-art charging station in Altlengbach, we’re ensuring seamless e-mobility infrastructure along an important daily travel route through Austria. The site is ideally located between Vienna and St. Pölten in the Altlengbach area, right next to the A1, and is equipped with twelve ultra-fast charging points and numerous convenience services,” says Thomas Landsbek, CEO of SMATRICS EnBW, with delight.

In total, the newest ultra-fast charging station in the SMATRICS EnBW network features twelve charging points in its first phase of expansion; if demand increases, it can be expanded to a total of 20 charging points. The so-called high-power chargers have a capacity of up to 400 kilowatts. Depending on the vehicle, electric vehicle drivers can use them to charge enough power for up to 400 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.

A Charging Break with Added Value

The charging park has a roof, is equipped with solar panels, and monitored by video surveillance. Convenience services, such as beverage and snack vending machines, seating, and restroom facilities, provide a comprehensive, worry-free experience for electric vehicle drivers. For car maintenance, vacuum cleaners, a tire pressure gauge, and a carpet beater are available. Additional local shops are just a two-minute walk away.

Mayor Irmgard Schibich emphasizes: “With the new charging park, Altlengbach is gaining a central mobility hub right off the Westautobahn. This investment benefits both travelers and local residents, while also making an important contribution to the expansion of modern infrastructure.”

With the Altlengbach location, SMATRICS EnBW is strengthening its presence in Lower Austria, the state with the most registered electric passenger cars in Austria (more than 52,000) and, at the same time, the highest number of public charging points (over 8,600). About 300 of these are located in the St. Pölten district. Like all its locations, SMATRICS EnBW operates the one in Altlengbach using 100 percent electricity from renewable energy sources.

As Austria’s leading provider, SMATRICS EnBW already operates more than 800 ultra-fast charging stations at approximately 130 locations. Looking ahead to 2026, the company is consistently expanding its own charging network in line with demand to meet the steadily growing need for fast-charging infrastructure and to continuously close remaining gaps in the network.
